Brian Bavosi

Angler

For Brian Bavosi, fishing has been a lifelong passion that began when he was just four years old, casting into freshwater ponds with his grandfather, father, and uncle. Summers on Cape Cod gave him his first taste of saltwater, and by his early teens he was heading 60–70 miles offshore with friends — long before he could even drive a car. “You get that first tuna blood on deck, or you see your first billfish, and it just lights a fire under you,” he recalls.

That fire has fueled more than four decades on the water, taking Brian from the creeks and marshes of New England to international tournament grounds. Now a key part of Lights Out, Brian thrives on the adventure, unpredictability, and exploration that offshore sportfishing demands. “Every trip is different. It’s a big ocean, and there’s so much to discover,” he says.

As a seasoned angler, Brian has embraced the rapid evolution of sportfishing technology, from advanced sonar to more precise targeting methods. He values the challenge of adapting to new techniques and new waters, whether in Cabo, the Bahamas, or the unforgiving canyons of New England. One moment that stands out came during the SFC opener at Walker’s Cay, when an estimated 800-pound mako shark launched eight feet out of the water in pursuit of a teaser — a reminder of both the power and unpredictability of the ocean.

Though he now calls Colorado home, where he also works as a licensed hunting guide, Brian returns to New England each season to fish with Lights Out.

Whether he’s chasing billfish, hunting elk in the Rockies, or skiing with teammates in Switzerland, Brian lives for the outdoors. On the boat, his go-to fuel is simple: a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich — preferably made by teammate Rob Carmichael. “That breakfast gets me going until one o’clock,” he said with a grin.
