LIGHTS OUT BOSTON ANGLING CLUB
Catch Up: The Origins of Lights Out Fishing Success
The Lights Out Boston Angling Club got its start the right way, when team owner Drew Dolben struck a deal to charter the club with the Sport Fishing Championship, with the knowledge he could bring together a winning combination. The club got its start as Lights Out Sportfishing, an original SFC team from the open era, based in Pocasset, Massachusetts, and led by Capt. Rob Carmichael. Carmichael and his wife Jackie Hayes are co-owners of the Viking 62 Lights Out, and Rhode Island native Capt. Tyler Dufresne skippers Lights Out, the Viking 62, and the team is made up of the Carmichael family and their angling friends who held down spots in the cockpit with them throughout the years, on a succession of boats.
Lights Out Boston AC has become known for its combination of sportsmanship, angling efficiency, and a good-natured, competitive spirit. Of course, it’s easy to have fun out there when you’re catching fish rapid-fire. The team has proven time and again that they can pose a legitimate threat from anywhere on the leaderboard, even late in the tournament. It’s this feisty attitude and persistence that fits in perfectly with the rich tradition of doing the hard work and winning championships that appeals to a Boston sports fanbase that is global in both reach and stature.
About the Lights Out Name
The name of Lights Out Boston Angling Club does not only reference its knockout performances in tournaments, it also pays homage to Paul Revere’s 1775 midnight ride, where two lanterns were hung in the steeple of Boston’s Old North Church (As Henry Wadsorth Longfellow put it, “One if by land, two if by sea.”), alerting Revere of British troops heading across the Charles River by boat to Lexington and Concord. As the lights went out, Revere set off to alert the Colonials of the approaching Red Coats. The 2025 Lights Out Boston AC season, marks the 250th Anniversary of Revere’s Midnight Ride. The Lights Out Boston AC team logo is inspired by Boston Light on Little Brewster Island, completed in 1716, and rebuilt in 1783 after the British destroyed it during the Revolutionary War. It was raised to its current height in 1856, and like Lights Out Boston, it will stand tall for years to come.
LIGHTS OUT: THE BOAT
Lights Out is a Viking 62 that has proven to be a good match for a crew determined to find the fish no matter how far offshore the thermoclines, bait, and fertile fishing grounds are found.
