MEET LIGHTS OUT, OUR VIKING 62
Lights Out is a Viking 62 that affords a level of onboard comfort for a crew who can get out of the sun or the wind, sometimes even the rain. But more than shelter, this is a robust hull built to handle the wide range of conditions faced by a crew determined to fish on the best days. Driven by a pair of 1,945-hp MTU M96L diesels, Lights Out has proven to be a good match for a crew determined to find the fish no matter how far offshore the thermoclines, bait, and fertile fishing grounds are found.
“The boats have definitely grown, they’ve certainly grown for us,” Rob says. “We’ve been fortunate to move up, get a little more comfort in a bigger platform. It allows you to have more people, and more rest, be ready to go, especially in these tournaments. In the Oak Bluffs tournament [in 2025], I think we were on the water fishing for 46 hours.” It makes a difference to be able to rotate the crew through cockpit bait watches and rest time, and keeping the crew fed and warm (or cool, as the case may be in summer) is proven to increase the hookup ratio. “To be really sharp, you need some rest,” Rob says.
