GEMLUX: Out(rigger) With the Old and In With the New!
There’s a big upgrade for Lights Out Boston AC for 2026.
Lights Out Boston is fired up to team up with Gemlux Fishing, and part of the deal is a brand-new set of outriggers. The Gemlux team came down to meet the Lights Out crew at Marina Pez Vela in Quepos, Costa Rica, to install a new set of Gemlux Gulf Stream Carbon fiber outriggers.
“We’re excited to get these new ’riggers installed, and work them into our fishing program,” said Captain Rob Carmichael, owner of the Viking 62 Lights Out with his wife, angler Jackie Hayes. “Being able to do a full upgrade like this at a world-class marina in a place known for some of the best billfishing in the world is pretty special.” The waters off Quepos offer fast and frequent shots at sailfish, with blue marlin mixed in, so there’s no better way to shorten the break-in period for the team on the equipment.
The outrigger installation at Marina Pez Vela in Quepos, Costa Rica, was smooth and seamless.
And what equipment! According to Gemlux, its Gulf Stream outriggers are proven to improve fishing success for captains and crew around the world. These sleek carbon fiber pole structures have anodized aluminum hardware to stand up for long service in the marine environment and work without needing spreaders and stay wires.
Carmichael noted that the changeover was a smooth process. “The Gemlux crew has the system dialed,” he says. “The install was incredibly fluid from start to finish.”

“We couldn’t ask for a better fishing-equipment partner,” says Lights Out Boston AC Team Owner Drew Dolben. “The last thing we want is our team getting distracted by equipment problems during the season, and installing Gemlux gear ensures that won’t happen, thanks to a combination of innovative thinking and solid engineering.”
Gemlux Gulf Stream Carbon Fiber Outriggers show how design and testing can head off issues before they result in missed opportunities and lost points in major tournaments. The outriggers have assisted layout arms (patent-pending) to make usage effortless, and lock automatically on deployment and unlock automatically on retrieval. Attachment points for pulling dredges and teasers are available in pre-built positions, or as accessories for captains to place in custom positions.
Lights Out gleams with the new Gemlux Gulf Stream Outrigger System.
“Once the install was wrapped up, it didn’t take long before we were back offshore putting them to work,” Carmichael says. “We’re stoked about the partnership with Gemlux and looking forward to seeing what these new riggers help us raise.”
