Lights Out Kids Introduced Some More Young People to the Thrill of Fishing

*Lights Out Kids are ready for action if the team needs some anglers for the upcoming Atlantic Division Championship in Ocean City, Maryland.*

Lights Out Kids, the youth outreach program of the Lights Out Boston Angling Club, hosted 20 kids from the Boys & Girls Club of Lynn on the Yankee Fleet out of Gloucester this week.

Lights Out Boston Angling Club created Lights Out Kids to introduce young people to sport fishing through hands-on, family-friendly experiences. Through fishing trips, dockside clinics, simulator events, and appearances at SFC tournaments up and down the Atlantic Division schedule, Lights Out Kids aims to make big-game angling accessible to families regardless of boat access or fishing background.

The charter was the Yankee Star of the Yankee Fleet, which brought 20 kids from the Boys & Girls Club of Lynn aboard for a half-day offshore fishing trip departing from Harbor Cove in Gloucester. The group spent the morning offshore fishing in water that was 250 to 260 feet deep, and caught red fish, cusk and hake. They also saw a whale, a first-time experience for some of the kids.

Every kid had the opportunity to participate in every aspect of fishing, from learning how to bait their own hooks, dropping lines, waiting for a bite, reeling in their own catches, and learning how to hold the fish. The kids were fully engaged throughout the entire trip and were interested in the speed of the boat, all the different tools they had, how to cut fish, and where you find different types of fish at different depths.

The kids got a perfect day to fish and they did us proud with an excellent succes rate. Fortunately they had plenty of Lights Out Boston AC gear to help keep the sun out of their eyes. Special thanks to the Boys & Girls Club of Lynn and the Yankee Fleet for helping us put together an unforgettable day on the water for these kids.
